NAIOP Edmonton is excited to host the 2026 NAIOP Real Estate Challenge, a premier commercial real estate case study competition that brings together top student teams from leading universities across Canada to solve a real-world development brief.

The event challenges participants to create a comprehensive, market-driven development proposal that integrates site analysis, market research, urban planning, design, financial modeling, and sustainability considerations. Working under real-world time constraints, teams present their solutions to a panel of respected industry leaders, gaining direct exposure to professional feedback, mentorship, and networking opportunities.

The 2026 Challenge is proudly hosted in Edmonton, one of Canada’s most dynamic and evolving urban markets, and features the iconic Revillon Boardwalk site, generously provided by Armco Capital, our Location Partner, whose involvement brings real-world relevance and depth to the competition.

At NAIOP Edmonton, education and talent development are at the heart of what we do. The Real Estate Challenge serves as a critical platform for experiential learning and plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of commercial real estate professionals, with student teams participating from the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of British Columbia, and University of Manitoba.

Tickets: Eventbrite

The Revillon Boardwalk is a prominent heritage office and mixed-use complex located at 10310 102 Avenue NW in the heart of Edmonton’s downtown core. Comprising two historic brick-and-beam buildings (the Boardwalk Building (1908) and the Revillon Building (1912)) connected by a recently revitalized Class A atrium, the 2.52-acre site offers approximately 295,000 square feet of existing gross leasable area across four parcels, including a surface parkade. Positioned along the vibrant 104 Street corridor and immediately south of the ICE District, the property benefits from exceptional visibility, walkability, and access to transit, dining, entertainment, and employment nodes. Over $40 million has been invested in capital improvements over the past five years, highlighted by the 2024 atrium redevelopment, while the site’s Heritage Area zoning supports adaptive reuse, intensification, and long-term value creation. With significant vacancy and flexible redevelopment potential, Revillon Boardwalk represents a rare opportunity to reimagine a landmark downtown asset through thoughtful placemaking, reuse, and strategic densification.
